$13,430

The event organizer Lynley Davidson has just finished tallying up the money raised through the event, and we are pleased to announce the grand total (so far) of $13,430, that’s up from the total we had before of $12,703.

This includes money raised in the following ways:

  • cash donations at the event as well as before the event
  • tickets purchased for the Kiwi Auction baskets, the contents of which were provided by generous supporters
  • money paid for silent auctions, which were generously donated by a wide variety of supporters
  • $1000 donation from Downunder Travel in Calgary
  • $500 donation from the Down Under Club of Winnipeg Inc.
  • $500 donation from Fidelity Investments

We are very appreciative of all the support and donations, and we will be presenting a cheque for the full amount to the Canadian Red Cross, who will in turn send the funds directly to New Zealand for the people of Christchurch.

Thank You!

A big thanks to all of the people who came out in support of the Hands Up 4 New Zealand fundraiser on Thursday night. It was a terrific success. We had a large turnout and raised an impressive amount of money with pledges, wonderful silent auction items and our Kiwi Auction.

Stories were shared by several people who were first-hand witnesses to the disaster in Christchurch, some who only narrowly escaped personal injury or death.

We also read a letter of support sent to us by the New Zealand High  Commissioner in Canada, Andrew Needs.

We will post some photos and totals shortly.

Thanks for your support

Tickets are going quickly

The devastation of the Feb. 22 Christchurch earthquake is so profound that it will have a lasting impact on the country and every family in that city for decades to come. The rebuilding task is huge and we want to show our support.

Our event on Thursday April 7th, 2011 was a fun evening hosted by the Down Under Club of Winnipeg, a group of New Zealanders and Australians who have been active here since the 1940s.

The events was well attended and we were very pleased with the money raised. Thank you everyone.

Also, we encourage everyone to use this site’s blog posting ability to share news that they receive on this recent natural disaster and their personal stories.
